Without Mercy

12781016

I meant to announce this last week. A family emergency occurred that derailed my plans.

Sebastian has a story that’s too long to tell within Mercy’s story. I’d given you guys several chapters of the book on Figment. However it’s been pulled from there. No fear, the plan is to offer this book for free for a period of time once published.

For those that read, I’ve expanded the story to give more background and more Sebastian. And of course I hadn’t finished loading all the chapters. There will be much to learn and enjoy.

Details of publishing date to come soon.

News about Equity (Balance Sheet series)

Equity Ad1

Ah, the joys of putting the last word on not only a book, but a series. It’s funny, this is the last series I started to write and it’s the first I’ve finished.

EQUITY represents the end of Kalen and Bailey’s journey. The story is told from both of their point of views. It wraps up just as I’d planned from the beginning (I’m thrilled about that). Some times when you’re writing, the story takes over and goes in a direction you didn’t expect. Not so here, which is why I found it easier to complete this story over the other projects I’m working on. However, this installment turned out far longer than the first two novellas in this series. In fact, this book is novel length.

For those of you disappointed Kalen wasn’t in Liabilities as much as you would have liked, I hope once you read Equity you’ll understand the need for that part of the story.

The book is off to the editor and when I get it back, I’ll have to no doubt make changes. However, the days are numbered for publication. I’ll release the date with the cover reveal next week.

So what now. I NEED YOU to help me spread the word. Yes, the joys of working for one self. I need the help of my favorite readers to spread the word. And what do you get out of this? I’m running a $50 gift card giveaway specifically for those of you who sign up and spread the word. How to get in on the action? Click the link below. Spreading the word is not only for bloggers but for any of you who use social media like Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, etc. So click the link below to sign up to join my TEAM.

And Teasers… Why not?

“Your Matt,” he said to the other man.

Matt reached out a hand. “Yeah, you are…”

“Turner. Bailey’s fiancé,” he announced taking Matt’s hand in a firm but quick hand shake.

Matt’s head snapped in my direction. I pinched the bridge of my nose. It wasn’t the time for a pissing contest.

“I appreciate you coming out to help,” he said, his face looking hopeful.

“There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for Bailey,” Matt said.

This was getting ridiculous. If we didn’t find Bailey soon, none of this posturing would matter.

“Kalen said you had interest in Bailey.”

Matt sized up Turner measuring his response. “I love Bailey.” Matt stopped and let Turner absorb that statement. “Like a sister though. I won’t lie and say I didn’t make a play for her when I finally took my head out of my ass. But Kalen here had already stolen her from me.”

Had Matt just taken my side? “Matt,” I said, ready to steer this conversation back on task. I pointed to the where Turner just stepped out of stalks as tall as though in the movie Children of the Corn. “This is where we believe whoever took her came through.”

The cop moved forward back in investigation mode. Turner gave me a look ignored. I understood his need to stake a claim. Hell, I might have done the same if I had a leg to stand on. Bailey however had made her choice.

Are you ready for Have No Mercy?

HNM ad1

Teaser time… If you haven’t already read this in the At Your Mercy (Cambion’s Fan) group on Goodreads… Here it is.

https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/95882-at-your-mercy—a-cambion-series-support-group

Apparently, ignoring the woman in voluminous red, draped in a bouquet of red roses as if they were a couture dress, was a mistake. A shrill voice erupted from her mouth immediately snapping my attention to her face.

“What a wonderful day for guest.” Her smile was disingenuous as it didn’t reach past her cheekbones. Her dark eyes spoke of more insidious things.

Flynn and I took a step back. We weren’t scared as much as we had no idea of the enemy that stood before us. The women in red with a mop of crimson curls atop her head took a proprietary step towards us. She loomed over us and would have blotted out the sun if there had been a sun in the azure sky.

My neck craned back to stare at the woman that stood before me. Her eyes were golden like fire lit them from inside.

“You absolutely must join me for dinner.”

I found my footing matching Flynn’s as we took another step in the opposite direction.

Her cartoonish smile curved every more, never once meeting her eyes.

In a deeper and sincere voice, she whispered, “You have nothing to fear.”

Been a while…

The greatest gift to an author is a reader. I remember the first review I received on the first book I wrote. I remember being in the kitchen with my family and reading it. And no, I didn’t ask family and friends to write that review. It was by someone I’d never met. I was new to the game and hadn’t asked anyone to read my book at that point. So this first review was pure in the purest form. She bought my book on her own, read it and gave it a five-star review. The review was only a few sentences, but it was priceless to me.

Reviews whether good are bad are important for an author. These reviews let others know that someone read it, thought it was at least good enough to buy. So I’m grateful for all of you who’ve taken the time to write a review on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and even Goodreads.

With that said, I’ll never forget that day, nor will I ever forget her, my first reviewer. Isn’t that true of all first?

Anyway, writing is also a solitary experience. It takes a considerable amount of time and then in my case patience from my family. Writing is like planning your wedding day. You spend months working on it and then for the reader, the experience is over in a matter of hours. How do I know? Well, I’m a reader and writer. So I understand the joys of reading a book I’ve waited for and then it’s over far too soon. And I know as a writer just how long it takes to type out all those words even though the story is already written in my head.

This past year for me has been fraught with illnesses freaky in nature for me at least. And a lot of changes like moving and trying to start anew.

I’ve also battled with giving my keyboard the time it needs so I can complete the books that are in my head. This past weekend, I wrote about 10k in words. YAY for me. But the week before…

Things are going slowly, but I hope that each time I put into the written word is quality. And that quality makes up for the lack on quantity. I hope you guys will continue to be patient with me.

Finally, ask and you shall receive has always been my policy. Someone asked me today about Equity, book three in the Balance Sheet series. So here is a teaser.

Also for you Mercy readers, I don’t know if you caught the new cover of Beg for Mercy. Here it is.

Promised teaser

I totally love hearing from you guys. Your requests are my command. And most of the time I read all my reviews. I haven’t read any reviews lately, so if I haven’t liked them it’s not because I don’t like them. I’ve been avoiding them so I could focus on writing. Once I get past these looming deadlines, I will go back and try and catch up with all the reviews I have yet to read.

Which brings me to a note I received on one of my post. A reader really got on my case for changing deadlines with book releases. I felt so bad. I really try and meet them, but my life has been all kinds of crazy this past year. I’ve had many strange illnesses that I haven’t talked about and other life changing events that remind me I’m human.

But no excuses. I’ve been writing everyday so far lately. New Year’s Resolution. I’m so pleased about that. And I’m really hoping to make all my deadlines this year.

With that said, I offered to post another chapter for a patient Jade who is ready to read Broken Lens. And of course, because my life can never be easy, I ran into a little trouble.

I’m not sure what other authors do, but I try to write whenever and wherever inspiration hits. And sometimes that means I’m not using my main laptop. In fact, I have three computers that have files saved on, my main and two others. And I have a handful of thumb drives I keep in case I’m out and can use a different computer not my own.

I open up my Broken Len file and I’m scrolling past the first chapter when I notice a note in between the first chapter and the rest I’ve written. What does the note say?

(There are missing chapters that need to be added)

I started this book a while ago and I for the life of me can’t remember where I’ve saved those “missing chapters.” In fact, reading the chapter that follows it, I know there are at least two chapters I’m missing. So I search my other computers and thumb drives and come up empty. I know I wrote them because I know what I said.

For a couple of days, I searched until I finally gave in and rewrote the first of two chapters. And I’ve posted it. Sorry for the delay, it’s chapter two on this post. This is for you Jade. The link is below.

It’s a New Year…

It’s 2014 and the year is off to an interesting start.

After finishing with Liabilities, I was able to take time to see some movies, like Catching Fire and the second installment of the Hobbit. I have a lot of love for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Hobbit series. Man that guy could write and had such talent for putting together his imagination on a page. And let’s not forgot the Hunger Games trilogy. It was really nice to see book to movie conversion done so well consider condensing a longer book into a shorter screenplay. Have you guys seen? What did you think?

I’ve been doing a lot of playing out in my head about each of my books. I wish I had magic fingers and I could get all of it down on a page in minutes instead of weeks and months. I’ve plotted out Mercy’s conclusion. Okay, so I’ve known how it would end. More like the details and I’m anxious to get it down and finished.

I’m also ready to bring TTL to its conclusion. Ethan needs to finish telling his story.

A song that’s been playing in my head and on my speakers on repeat is Wait for Me by Kings of Leon. I feel like it describes characters in flux in each of my books as a song sung to other characters. Can you guess who would be singing to who?

http://youtu.be/MC8QcaMMVQE

But today I’m here to talk about Liabilities. I took a risk in writing an adult tale. I needed an outlet for all the things I couldn’t write in YA. Assets, Liabilities and ultimately Equity are really one book. I took a chance in telling the story in the “series” way because I needed to get other things written in between. In doing so, it may appear that the story is headed in a certain direction.

L Ad Blog Tour Promo v3

For me as a writer, I try to give the reader enough information so that they really understand the characters and the decisions that they make (bad or good ones alike). All my main characters are flawed. Somehow, perfect characters to me aren’t as interesting. As such, they make mistakes, human or paranormal ones, lol. Because I’m a reader as much as a writer, I totally understand when you want to shake, slap, yell or whatever at my characters because you perceive what they are doing as dumb, idiotic, crazy, etc. But that’s what people do, we make mistakes. Heck, my mistake was writing and releasing the book in pieces. What’s done is done. Again, I get it. I just hope you guys continue to trust me.

For Equity, the story will be told from two POVs, Kalen and Baileys. You got a taste in Liabilities. Now it will be full out throughout the book.

As a teaser, I’m posting the unedited first chapter in Equity. Click the link below. Enjoy.

Prada Handbag and a $50 Giftcard

I’m giving away a Prada handbag like one given to Bailey in Liabilities.

Book Blurb…
Trying to put distance between her and Kalen won’t be easy for Bailey. She doesn’t expect that her life will get more complicated when she heads home. At first glance, she knows she’s made a calculated mistake. Turner is everything he had been and more. With her heart out of balance, she risks becoming a liability to everyone surrounding her.

News and gifts…

Happy Holidays to everyone. I come baring news of good tidying and baring gifts. I know not everyone is a fan of each of my series/books. Some of you only like paranormal, young adult, adult, or lgbt. And I have something for everyone.

First of all, have you checked out my updated website. It’s up and running. There need to be a few tweeks, but so far I’m stoked. www.shannondermott.com

But you guys want the pressies…

First for my Cambion series fans…

Cambion Ad1

So, Beg for Mercy is like so close to my heart. Being the first book I published, it will always hold that special place in my heart.

Because I love it so much, it’s time for a change. I’ve gotten word from many of you over the months how the original cover art has been used by many other authors. And as much as I love the silhouette, it’s time for Mercy to have a unique identity. I thought I’d have the cover to share with you today, but a few touches need to be finished on it. It will have the same feel as the original cover, but the cover art will be unique to me/novel and won’t be used by anyone else. YAY!

Some covers may end up coming close, but it won’t be an exact replica as it stands now. I hope to get back to you all soon with the reveal. Additionally, Mercy is getting re-edited for the millionth time. (Thanks Taylor) I had it perfect in November the original year of publication. However in June the following year when I made a change, I saved over that file accidentally and lost it. (yikes) Anyway, good things to come with this series.

My first present is a Bonus POV that takes place after Mistletoe (a previous POV). If you are a re-reader, you may want to read Mistletoe again before this one. Click the link and enjoy.

My second present (because the next book isn’t going to release this year like I hoped) is a sneak peek at the first chapter in Have No Mercy. Enjoy!!!

For my Through the Lens fans…

TTL Ad1

Again, I apologize for Broken Lens not releasing. So for your present, I’ve written a POV from TTL from Ethan’s POV. I hope you like. Also, I believe the first chapter of Broken Lens was posted a while ago. I’ll post that link just in case.

For my Alliance fans…

Steven-Chevrin-Jarod-Stark-04

Thank you guys for being patient. Rouge is written and awaiting my final read through before it goes to beta and editing. For your present, I will post a very unedited version of the first chapter. You will get both Keller and Hudson’s POV. I’m tempted to post without reading myself because I can’t get distracted right now. I love the way my writing partner writes. (Yes, that’s me fan girling. I have no shame.) And of course, Keller has a way of sucking me back in. (I read the first chapter at least. Gosh I want to stop what I’m doing. It’s been over a year since I read. It’s almost like reading for the first time.)

For my Assets fans (Balance Sheet series)…

Liabilities will be released next week. YAYAY! For those of you that requested an ARC it’s coming soon. I’ll ask your help in doing a promo post on your blog or wherever. I’ll send that information soon for those who signed up.

In the meantime, I have a raw POV from Kalen’s POV from Assets. I hope you like. An extended version will be included as a bonus in the back of Liabilities.

Happy Holidays…

It’s been a while since my last post. (I feel as if I’m in confession). And I feel horrible that I haven’t been able to keep up with posting on a regular.

Liabilities. It’s been promised to me by next week. Then it depends how fast I can get through any revisions that need to be made when it will be released. I’m keeping my fingers crossed it won’t take too long. But I refuse to make any more promises. It seems like when I do, it becomes an epic fail every time.

L Ad#1

I will say there will be an AWESOME giveaway in connect with the release of the book, the likes of which most likely haven’t been seen. For those that are interested in participating in a blog tour and receiving an ARC, contact me. If you have blogging friends that might be interested in participating, pass the word even if they haven’t read the first book.

The link to sign up is below.

I will send out ARCs in mobi or epub form.

I’m still in the middle of three other projects in various stages of progress. Hang in there with me. I haven’t forgotten Jess & Ethan. And Mercy and the boys are always on my mind. I’m itching to write Lizzy and Striker’s story. But that is far down on my to do list.

I love hearing from you guys. I try to always respond. I’ve had a couple of questions come through my website that I was unable to answer because the e-mail address came back incorrect. If you haven’t heard back from me, try contacting me again and double-check your e-mail address. You can always also contact me through Facebook and Twitter also.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
