About shannondermott

Shannon Dermott is an author of young adult fictional stories.

To kill or not to kill…..

As a regular reader of all the reviews I get, I’m grateful for all I receive.  Thanks to all of you who have posted reviews just because or to get another POV chapter from one of Mercy’s guys.  No, the goal hasn’t been met yet, but I’m feeling generous.

The past few days, I’ve read some really awesome reviews.  One in particular today caught my attention because of a question she raised.  Now, there are other questions and comments I’ve read that I desperately want to answer, but I curb my enthusiasm because answering would only spoil the fun for the next book, lol.

However, this one question, I couldn’t ignore.  To kill or not to kill, at least that was the gist of the question/comment. Would I kill one of Mercy’s boys to satisfy the question of the love triangle, no quadrangle, okay, maybe hexagon? 😉

That question/answer makes me think of a really popular series that concluded recently.  One where the guy everyone really liked was killed off in favor of another guy for no other reason then to eliminate the love triangle. At least that is what it felt like to a lot of readers.

My answer to that question is no.  As an author, I’m committed to all Mercy’s guys, Flynn, my bad boy, Luke, my good guy, Sebastian, my demon and Paul, my human.  Nothing that will happen to any of them, I’ve taken lightly.  The series is written, at least in my head.  The final chapter and what happens with Mercy and all or any of her guys is predetermined.  None will be killed off just to deal with the love hexagon.  However, I can’t guarantee any of their safety or survival.  But know if I do kill someone off, there is a really good reason behind it. And I’ve given it a great deal of consideration. Again, each book is already written in my head, published or not. Thus, I have to stay true to the story.

With that said, as thanks to all the reviewers’ reviews/ratings and in part to that reviewer.  As such, I was inspired to give you all a little Flynn.  One because I know you guys love him and it certainly helped that the reviewer with the question roots for him according to her review.

Without further ado

Thursday’s Teasers

Random Thursday Teasers and thoughts.

Teaser from the next Mercy book.

My half smile and a quick shake of my head said it all.  I went to grab the door handle to get out. Stopping me, Maggie said, “This is all messed up, Eme. But it will work out… Somehow.”  Her voice trailed off.

Feeling like the biggest jerk, I turned and took her hand and gave it a squeeze.  “I’m sorry, Maggs. I should be there for you. I guess I just haven’t been sleeping well.”

Previously posted teaser on Facebook and Twitter

I stared down at the question I’d hesitated on. A synonym for licentious.  I called him that.  A tightness in my chest broke with the thought of him.  Pushing back grief, I just had to get through this. Then the tears could fall.

RANDOM

I ran accross this picture on the web.  Who does this guy remind you of?

Ask and you shall receive….

Those puppy dog eyes get me everytime.  So, you asked and you shall receive.  Based on e-mails, facebook/twitter comments, reviews and goodreads post, you all want more POV from Flynn or Luke during the time when they knew Mercy.  So, I will give you what you want as an incentive when one of the following milestones is reached:

On Amazon.com:

Beg for Mercy gets either 100 reviews and/or 100 likes of that page. (The liked status is next to the # of reviews to the side of the picture of the cover of the book).

or

Waiting for Mercy gets either 75 reviews and/or 75 likes of that page.

http://www.amazon.com/Waiting-Mercy-Cambions-Series-ebook/dp/B007UKNRRG/ref=pd_sim_kstore_2

or

No Mercy gets either 50 reviews and/or 50 likes of that page.

http://www.amazon.com/No-Mercy-Cambions-2-5-ebook/dp/B008NWXK0O/ref=pd_sim_kstore_2

On barnesandnoble.com:

Released. Relax. Read.

Released. Relax. Read.

No Mercy, a short story told from the POV of Flynn and Luke from the Cambions series is available for purchase.  The boys finally have their say.  And boys will be boys.  Read to see just far they’ve come from this story to where they are now in Waiting for Mercy.  Although, I will say, I wouldn’t read until after you’ve read Waiting for Mercy.

I do have the cover and title for the next novel in the Mercy (Cambions) series.  I will post soon.  Until then, relax and read.  Summer is zooming by so fast.

Dear Journal

Dear Journal,

I’m starting fresh with this one.  Shannon has my other journals which she is using to write my story.  It’s hard for me to begin anew.  Events of the recent past are fresh in my mind.  I can’t fathom how things turned out as they did.  Every day, I find myself on the verge of tears wondering just how things went wrong.

When I received this journal (not the one I write in now but another) from out of the blue, I couldn’t believe my eyes.  His words were here.  All I have left at the moment.  I vow to fight however, this fate, this destiny cannot be true.  I’ve given Shannon this journal, so she can share it with those that care.  I dog eared a section, one that allows me to see certain things much clearer.  It all makes more sense.

I cannot predict when Shannon will get back to writing my story.  She tells me there is another girl with an important story to tell.  So, I begged her to release his words.  Just this small part for now, so that I may have some of him back.  Something to cling onto.  Something….

I found this picture.  It takes me back almost to the beginning of it all.  I looked a mess having drank the night before.  God the lakehouse.  But I did seem happy.  Things were better.  Before a person I thought I despided told me three little words.  Before my life went to hell in back.  Just before…..

And in the journal, this picture fell out.  So innocent, she is not.

This at least is something.  Shannon sent me this.

The cover for the story she’s written for me on my request.  It will explain a lot.  Especially when she gets back to telling my story.  I’m not sure how much longer I can wait.  Posting this on her page may get others to pressure her to tell my story.  I need closure.

A quick note…

A quick note….

When is the Cambions book three coming out is a popular question I’ve been getting a lot lately.  The answer is I have no firm answer.  Sorry.  😦   Hopefully, it be out later this year.  I’m waiting to get the cover from my graphic artist.  Once I have that, I will reveal it and the title.  By then, maybe I will have some insight into the release date.

I know. I can see Mercy with shock and disappointment that I’m not paying enough attention to her. My boys are a bit annoyed as well. Mercy has aggressively tried to assert herself in my writing time. It’s getting to become distracting.

In the meantime, I did finish the Flynn and Luke short story.  Although it is set prior to Beg for Mercy, I don’t suggest reading it until after Waiting for Mercy.  Characters from both books will be brought up in various ways.  It still has a bit more editing, but I should be posting the cover and a publication date soon.

And don’t forget Paul. I posted a bonus POV chapter for him.

Right now, I’m editing Remember.  It’s different from Mercy in almost every possible way, lol.  I hope you guys end up liking it.  It seems like I finished the first draft of it eons ago.  It’s been a labor of love that one.

Later!

Prelude to Beg for Mercy

While looking through my files for something else, I found this.  I’d forgotten I’d written it.

So, I thought I would go ahead and post to give you guys a glimpse into Paul’s head.  Poor guy doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s radar even mine (I forgot, lol).  This is story begins before Beg for Mercy when even Mercy was obvious to all things.

I searched for a picture I thought would represent Paul and I found this one. Maybe it was just the baseball hat (you don’t believe that do you, lol).  I think it’s cute and kind of says, why not me. (he sighs, while I laugh).  I love Paul, but then, I love them all.

So here it is.

Bonus Chapter from Waiting for Mercy – Flynn POV

So here is the bonus chapter of Flynn in Waiting for Mercy at the Wedding.  I hope you like it.

This isn’t the exact dress I envisioned for Mercy.  The one in my head is a little more form fitting and ending at the knee, but its close enough.

Flynn…. Not necessarily the suit, but certainly the attitude.  That knowing that you are hot!

Without futher ado……

Not really a part of the story, but this picture just reminds me of Mercy.  I’ll let you decide who the guy is or should be, lol. 🙂

Tuesday Nightmare

What do you do when your livelihood almost crashes.  And I don’t mean a car.  I mean, my freaking computer.  I didn’t get the blue screen of death.  Instead, I got the black screen of impending doom.  The message in white letters that stood out like little explosions read “Searching for Disk Error.”  To say my heart stopped for the minutes it took for the computer to scan itself is an understatement.

With my lips turning blue from lack of oxygen, I waited.  With my finger going numb from lack of use, I waited.  My brain replaying the last moments of every keystroke that would be lost if I had a system failure.  It was like my writer’s life flashing before my very eyes.

Would the readers mind if book three in the Mercy series was scrapped because I didn’t want to write it over?  Was this somehow payback for the cliffhanger I left Waiting for Mercy on, lol?

I needed an Angel of Mercy to save me and my computer because we were both going down.  My system check unperturbed by silent screams.  It took its sweet time scanning the hard drive.  58%.  I needed to breathe.  Air was a distant memory as my vision blurred.  I couldn’t loose everything.  Okay, so I did a back up, like two months ago.  Crap.  I needed to be more diligent.  Life does seem to get in the way.

61%, I claw at my throat hoping against hope that my Dell would live to see another day.

Was the short story of Flynn and Luke saved on the last backup I did????

69%, what the hell was taking so long.  ERROR detected flashed on the screen.  Holy moly!  Sucking in a first breath, I managed to see the message that something was deleted.  But I guess that would fix the system.  Hopefully, everything important was saved.

Time ticked away as I held that last breath.  72%, 83%, 94%.  ERROR!  I can hear the non-existent ringing like a meltdown at a nuclear power plant.  Oh, wait that’s my phone’s ringtone.  I ignore the call, it wouldn’t be important if my computer died.

Taking another breath, the system goes dark.  I missed what happened while I checked my phone.  Dying for a second time, I watch as my system re-boots itself.   Sighing a relief and breathing in precious air that should never be under appreciated.  Never to make the same mistake again, I quickly make a backup on an external hard drive saving everything.

Moral of the story  –  Make a back-up on a regular basis.  I was given a reprieve this time.  But things could have been catastrophic.  Things could have gotten ugly.  I say a silent prayer of thanks and pay it forward by sharing my story with you.  I can laugh about this now…..
